A death row inmate from the US state of Alabama will be the first to be executed next week using a new method instead of lethal injection.
Alan Miller is expected to be euthanized next week by nitrogen hypoxia, which will deprive his body of oxygen. The method was approved in 2018 but has not yet been applied or tested.
Thanks to this technology, which is heavily criticized by human rights activists, the prisoner is allowed to inhale only nitrogen, thus depriving his body of the oxygen necessary for survival, reports 20minutos.
Alan Miller was convicted of murdering three people after a shooting at a workplace in Birmingham, Alabama in 1999. He was originally scheduled to be executed by lethal injection on September 22, but because of his fear of needles, Miller requested that he be executed by another method. His request will almost certainly be granted.
