The head of state, speaking before the members of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) led by him, added: “However, a decision of the Mejlis (parliament) is necessary to hold a popular referendum.”
The AKP is due to submit to lawmakers today the reform, originally proposed by the opposition as part of efforts to gain more voter support for Turkey’s June 2023 presidential and parliamentary elections.
