The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said again that he is against the participation of Russian athletes in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, BTA reports.
“We discussed diplomatic steps to end the war. I emphasized that athletes from the Russian Federation should not participate in the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024,” he tweeted after a phone call with French President Emmanuel Macron.
In December, Zelensky asked the President of the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Thomas Bach to leave the ban on the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions.
The Olympic summit on December 9 allowed athletes from Russia and Belarus to return to international competition, despite the Russian invasion of Ukraine. The Olympic Council of Asia (GMS) then asked to discuss the possibility of allowing athletes from both sides to compete under its auspices, provided they competed under a neutral flag and did not perform their national anthems. The meeting participants agreed to study this proposal.
